If you’re looking to build up a plot of land for development then there is an alternative. The treatment which will still take approximately 24-48 months but is far more labour intensive. The technique focuses on the removal of knotweed to a specific treatment area or stockpile, clearing the area and allowing the new development to go ahead. The removed knotweed which has been placed in a stockpile is then sprayed with the herbicide as used in any of the other smaller projects.
A shorter alternative for Japanese knotweed eradication is a 12-24 month project where the most vigorous part of the plant is removed and disposed of. The remaining parts of the plants are once again treated with the specially designed herbicide. Of course not all eradications will take between 24-48 months and it is all dependent on the scale of infestation, but without consistent treatment, knotweed will find a way to spread throughout the site again.
